The Festival Idea
Updated 2021

The Israel Folkdance Festival of Boston is based on an idea with roots in the Israeli folk dance community at MIT in 1977: to create great things by sharing.

The Festival Idea is evident among our dancers and troupe leaders. They have the opportunity to share in an inspiring environment leading up to the show and during the show itself. Bringing groups together from all over the world increases communication between them and generates a cross-fertilization of ideas. Younger groups are exposed to higher levels of dancing and choreographic skill at the show. Adult groups are inspired and motivated by the energy and sometimes awe of the younger dancers. All of our dancers are inspired by the enthusiasm of our audience.

The Festival Idea is evident among the volunteers on the Festival Committee. We share expertise, drawing on the skills each person brings to the table at our monthly meetings. We share our passion for the raise of the curtain at our show every year. Our show thrives on volunteers from the organizing Committee to the troupe leaders and performers, together reaping the rewards of a marvelous show. After over forty years, and several generations of dancers, the Festival looks forward to continuing to bring new dancers of all ages to our stage and giving troupe leaders from all over the world a place to show off their skills. The Festival is sponsored by Campus Activities Complex at MIT.

Hope to see you next year.

In today's world of internet and Zoom, sharing may not seem unique. But here's how we started.
